Business Systems Coordinator

Job Overview

Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) is a privately held Canadian corporation applying dynamics and control technology in the space market for reaction wheels, rate measurement units and complete microsatellites. We are currently seeking an individual to fill a business systems coordinator position to provide support for the assembly of electromechanical space products. This is a permanent position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide business systems coordination for prototype, developmental, experimental and production electromechanical assembly units, sub units, boards wire harnesses and cables associated with microsatellites including but not limited to:
    • Read, interpret and follow procurement documentation (work orders, drawings, assembly procedures, bills of materials, Military and Space Standards etc.)
    • Source mechanical and electrical components and assemblies, test equipment, laboratory supplies and generate purchase orders
    • Perform detailed receiving inspection on procured items including but not limited to test equipment, mechanical components and assemblies, electronic components and electronic assemblies
    • Interface with program management, quality assurance and finance department to coordinate documentation of procurement and receiving activities. Use computer to maintain purchasing and receiving inspection records as well as use email (MS Outlook)
    • Perform inventory management tasks as follows:
      • Design and implement a physical inventory storage system and associated processes for electronic kits, mechanical parts and various subassemblies as well as finished goods
      • Design and implement a system for tracking inventory components through the various work in process stages, including issuing from stores, kitting, provision to suppliers and final assembly.
      • Maintain accurate costs for all inventory items
    • Maintain and document calibrated equipment status including but not limited to oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, arrange for external calibration and update logs as required
    • Maintain and audit ESD equipment and workstations and update logs, as required
    • Coordinate shipping tasks including interfacing with couriers and customs brokers

General requirements:

  • A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical manuals and reports
  • Very good organizational skills
  • Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees and customers
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to interface directly with vendors and suppliers
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Good response to challenges posed by short deadlines
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • It is a condition of employment that the employee obtain and maintain, through the Company, eligibility for access to controlled goods and / or technology in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Controlled Goods Directorate of the Government of Canada; and obtain and maintain, through the Company, eligibility for Secret Clearance in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Government of Canada.

Software/Computer Skills and Required Skill Level:

  • Windows 2000/XP, Intermediate
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Intermediate

Physical requirements:

  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, sitting, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing stooping, stretching and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.

Education and Training and Experience

  • Business Systems College training preferred
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus
  • Minimum of two years relevant work experience
  • Experience in the space exploration industry, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environment is required
  • Entry level position available and training provided for all job responsibilities, experience in electronics highly preferred
  • A demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical role
