Microsat Systems Canada Inc (MSCI), a privately held company located in Mississauga, Ontario, is looking for an individual to assume the full time position of Director of Business Development.
MSCI and its predecessors have provided satellite components worldwide since their inception in 1975. MSCI is the prime contractor for the development and operation of Canada’s MOST microsatellite that launched in 2003 and is still in operation today.
The Director of Business Development is a vital member of a growing team of top-notch professionals. This role has influence on virtually all aspects of company business, from performing as the company interface to most of the global space world, to working with the MSCI engineering teams to development new products. This person must be able to excel at many levels.

Roles and Responsibilities
The Director of Business Development leads all facets of business development for the company to:
External
- Establish and maintain external contacts with key personnel in space organizations globally including space agencies, military organizations, other government organizations, universities, industry associations, and individuals to:
- Be a company ambassador;
- Understand market trends in the global space business;
- Develop a database of opportunities for the company to pursue
- Understand what our current and future customers require to be successful in their activities
- Recognize how our world class capability could be applied to solve new problems for new customers
- Communicate to our customers and partners through our web site, brochures, trade shows, press releases, and interviews
- Build strategic relationships with complementary companies to enhance our global reach or provide better solutions to our customers through teaming
Internal
- Work with our internal product teams to communicate directions in which we need to take our products to enhance our value to our customers
- Advise our research and development teams to help focus initiatives for long term growth
- Lead proposal teams to communicate our offerings to customers
Education and Background
The Director of Business Development must:
- Have, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
- Have been granted a Masters of Business Administration degree from an accredited university;
- Be a Canadian citizen and be able to obtain and maintain, through MSCI, eligibility for access to controlled goods and / or technology in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Controlled Goods Directorate of the Government of Canada; and
- Be able to obtain and maintain, through MSCI, eligibility for Secret Clearance in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Government of Canada
Knowledge and Experience
The ideal Director of Business Development will have experience in:
- An aerospace (ideally space) engineering company as a working engineer or equivalent performing space hardware design and / or manufacturing for a minimum of five years from completion of bachelor’s degree
- A program management or business development management position with responsibility for customer liaison, negotiation, needs assessment, and satisfaction;
- Responsibility for success at proposing and capturing space products contracts; and
- Negotiation of contracts with the Canadian government and ideally the United States government and the European Space Agency
