Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical Design Engineer

Job Overview

Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) is a privately held Canadian corporation applying dynamics and control technology in the space market for reaction wheels, rate measurement units and complete microsatellites. We are looking for an experienced space electronics engineer to perform design and test of electronics for space products. This is a permanent position.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in the design and layout of electronic circuits using ORCAD or similar software for space products
  • Familiar with PSPICE software tool
  • Familiar with FPGA design, experience preferable
  • Certification in all facets of soldering of electronic components and PCBs to NASA and / or ESA standards would be an asset
  • Experience with requirements and techniques of working in a “clean room” environment
  • Familiarity with space Product and Quality Assurance requirements for Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical (EEE) Components
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and BOM
  • Strong electronics troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to present your work in both internal and external design reviews
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • It is a condition of employment that the employee obtain and maintain, through the Company, eligibility for access to controlled goods and / or technology in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Controlled Goods Directorate of the Government of Canada; and obtain and maintain, through the Company, eligibility for Secret Clearance in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Government of Canada.

Duties:

You will design, analyze and test spacecraft electrical/electronics subsystems for microsatellite applications. This will include trade-offs to determine the most cost-effective components, circuit designs and circuit layouts to meet spacecraft requirements including size, power, thermal de-rating, EMC/EMI/EMC and radiation tolerance requirements. You will be required to generate analog, digital and power system circuit designs. As with all positions at MSCI, you will be required to fully document all designs/analyses you are responsible for.

You will also be specifying assembly, integration, test and verification sequences.

Desired education & experience includes a B.A.Sc. in Electrical/Electromechanical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent preferred with 5 years experience in electronics circuit design.

Desired Skills:

  • Spacecraft electronics circuit design and analysis
  • Power circuit and analog filter design and analysis
  • FPGA circuit design and analysis
  • Hardware testing experience (laboratory testing of electronic/electromechanical systems)
  • Assemble and test printed circuit boards and electronics for space products, some in a clean room environment
  • Work with a mechanical technician to integrate, test, and complete acceptance of complete space products
  • Space qualification radiation testing of electronics boards and EMI/EMC testing of space products
  • Ensure working cells are kept organized
  • Suggest and document any modifications or changes to parts, drawings or procedures for continuous improvement initiatives

You are a self-starter, enthusiastic, dynamic, results-oriented with good interpersonal skills. Your work will be both autonomous and in a team environment.
