Geocentrix Welcomes Microsat Systems Canada Inc. as a Gold-Level CSDC Sponsor

Geocentrix Technologies Ltd. is pleased to welcome Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) as a gold-level sponsor of the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge.

Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) (formerly the Space Division of Dynacon Inc.) brings a legacy of space experience which dates back to the early development of the Space Shuttle's Canadarm manipulator.

More recently, MSCI's space heritage is being applied towards smaller, highly-capable microsatellites and attitude control systems. MSCI is the designer and builder of the Multi Mission Microsatellite Bus technology (MMMB), and is an innovator of world class Reaction Wheels and attitude control systems.

MSCI is the prime contractor for the Canadian Government's Near-Earth Object Surveillance Satellite (NEOSSat) program, an 80 kg optical spacecraft designed to fulfill a dual mission of tracking objects orbiting earth and detecting asteroids within earth's orbit around the sun which could pose a collision hazard with earth.

NEOSSat's design is based on the highly successful MOST microsatellite which was launched in 2003 and continues to provide spectacular images of distant stars. MSCI has also developed a constellation variant called the MSCI Constellation Microsatellite (MCM) whose build and launch efficiencies will enable new business cases for commercial and operational applications.

"The Satellite Design Challenge will harness the creativity of university students across Canada to design new satellites and sub-systems." explains David R. Cooper, President and CEO, MSCI. "We hope this will launch the next generation of spacecraft engineers."

Geocentrix would like to thank MSCI for their commitment to the CSDC, and hope that the challengers will benefit from the extensive and particularly valuable small-satellite experience which MSCI brings to the competition.

The MOST microsatellite's outstanding flight heritage — remaining in orbit four years longer than expected and still going strong — has surpassed all expectations without indication of deterioration. MOST’s longevity has resulted in a prodigious amount of research
